Early 20th Century Life

The Pageant of the Century

This illustrated historical account is largely concerned with Britain and its happenings, but also features important events in other countries. If you just want to know what happenned when, then a modern chronicle would be more use. With this publication, it is the comparison between the 1933 viewpoint and present-day attitudes that will be of most interest. I don't think our interest in recycling goes quite as far as 'With paper at 9d a pound, the economical war housewife stored old newspapers for re-sale to fishmongers, etc'.

Who now remembers the floods of 1928, and what hapenned to Lumiere's pleated diaphragm gramophone? An example of modernity in 1933 is 'a betrousered lady feeding pigeons in Trafalgar Square', while the last event listed is 'Mr Gandhi arrested'.

This fascinating CD costs £17.95 plus £2.50 postage from S&N Genealogy Supplies at www.genealogysupplies.com, or by writing to S&N Genealogy Supplies, West Wing, Manor Farm, Chilmark, Salisbury, SP3 5AF.
