There may be no trace of the church at Sheepwash, but there's plenty of data about those who lived in these northern counties towards the end of the 19th century in this directory. Don't forget that a Kelly's directory includes a wide range of data, including lists of municipal wards and poor law unions as well as, in this instance, particulars of the University of Durham. As always, there are some curious names, such as the places Brawn's Bath, Cauldron Snout, Monkwearmouth, and Whit-le-Head.
