The Visitation of Buckinghamshire 1634

In the 16th and 17th Century, those who wished to bear a coat of arms were expected to prove their entitlement from time to time. The Heralds visited each county and examined each armigerous family, writing down their history and in many cases much of their genealogy. These Heralds' visitations are in manuscript form, but many have been published as books, notably by the Harleian Society about one hundred years ago, and these have now been put onto CD.

The number of generations shown for each family varies considerably, and dates and places are seldom included, but if your family has wealthy connections, then you may find information of interest. There are good indexes of both names and places, and it was easy to find a lot of information about the Brudenell family of Stoke Mandeville, a description of their coat of arms, and a family tree since the previous visitation of 1566.

This is a substantial document which has been scanned to a high standard.
