Dorset Absent Voters' List
1918-1919

The First World War involved so many combatants that identifying them in the records can be difficult, especially where initials are used rather than first names. The more records you can use, the better, and this Dorset Absent Voters' List will be invaluable in that regard.

Arranged by parish, and showing precise address, it lists absent voters and shows their rank, unit and service number. In the parish of Cann, for example, Charles Henry Brickell of Butt's Knap is 61549 Lance Corporal 32nd CCS in the Royal Army Medical Corps, while Maurice James Brickell, of the same address, is 292119, a private in 'D' company of the 1/7th Devons.

The original printed text has some manuscript amendments, themselves of interest, and the quality of the original print was not good, but this CD will be an invaluable addition to the resources needed by anyone attempting to trace the elusive Dorset family members who served in the First World War, especially if they were not casualties of the war, or did not serve overseas.
