The Visitation of Cambridgeshire 1575 & 1619

Not everyone would have been overjoyed by the arrival in Cambridge of Robert Cooke, Clarenceux King of Arms in 1575 and the subsequent visit in 1619 by Sir Henry St. George, Richmond Herald. Those whose pedigrees and entitlements were secure had their positions and Arms confirmed, but if you were not entitled to use Arms the officials could, and usually did, deface them or otherwise remove all references to spurious claims.

The names, in this digitally enhanced original text, run from Adam to Wysse, and pedigrees going back up to 10 generations are included. The pedigrees are designed to show the status of an individual at the time of the visitation.

These records may be the only data available and so are very valuable.
