As well as official attempts to record those who fell during World War I, schools, social clubs and businesses also made their own rolls of honour to commemorate their fallen brethren. This is one example, which has been compiled by the National Institute of Electical Engineers.

Rolls such as this are a real boon, with each entry including an extensive biography, with details such as names and details of family, career and movements during the War, circumstances of death and even a portrait of each fallen engineer.
