Genealogy on your Mac

If you're looking to record your family history on your computer, you needn't use a PC...

Should you have an Apple Mac, then there are two major programs you should take a closer look at: Reunion and Heredis.

Reunion 9Reunion

Reunion is designed to get you going with the minimum of fuss. Everything is handled from a single screen, with pop-ups appearing as and when necessary. There are two basic views - one showing your immediate family (parents, spouse and children), and an overview enabling you to jump elsewhere quickly. You can create charts and basic reports from your research.

Reunion is available for £68.95, read more about this program at S&N Genealogy Supplies.

Heredis X.2Heredis

Heredis offers an extensive feature list, plus a friendly user interface which puts it up there with the better WIndows tools. Everything's accessible thanks to a sensible layout, plus there are all the usual tools for creating charts, lists and more besides. The newest version - X.2 - even boasts some clever little tools not found elsewhere. One of these is the ability to export your family's events to iCal, so you get pop-up reminders of what was hapenning on the current day all those years ago.

Heredis is available for £44.99, read more about this program at S&N Genealogy Supplies.
