The 1841 Census contains less useful information for family historians than later ones, but it is nevertheless worth investigating.
The Yorkshire 1841 Census (S&N British Data Archive Ltd, 44 CDs, £49.95 plus £2.50 p&p) contains digitised copies of the whole of "God's Own County" arranged by registration district. It includes a street index to Leeds and a master area index giving the location of settlements, with their CD and sub-district or piece number; but there is, as yet, no index by name. S&N is encouraging volunteers to contribute to one and include a template to be completed. As a reward, people with receive a CD with the currently available name indexes.
