Ancestors magazine was published by Wharncliffe Publishing Limited and The National Archives. It has now ceased publication.
1881 Army List (S&N Genealogy Supplies, £19.95) contains much more than contemporary army officers down to the rank of lieutenant with the dates of their promotions. The militia, the yeomanry cavalry, the Indian Civil Service, medical and veterinary officers and even retired officers on pay or pension are also listed. A section on the mobilisation of the army in the UK records where each corps was stationed. Although other ranks are not included in the lists, this information would be useful for those trying to locate an event, like a baptism or burial, in a non-commissioned officer's family.
