With the release of RootsMagic 6, existing features are developed further to inject functionality into areas of the program.
The most notable example of this feature development is CountyCheck Explorer, which builds on the basic CountyCheck tool introduced in version 5 to allow you to examine and explore shifting county boundaries over time without waiting for RootsMagic to highlight mistakes in your places database first.
The integrated Web Search feature gains a tool called Web Tags - our favourite new feature in version 6. It offers a welcome means of incorporating online resources into your tree, and you can attach these to people, sources, citations, places and research log entries.
The Timeline View gains a new 'Live' moniker, reflecting the fact you can now edit your research when viewing an individual's timeline, providing you with context to your changes. We also like the new online publishing tool, which links into free hosting space at RootsMagic.com.
RootsMagic 6 takes a definite step in the right direction, and is well worth checking out if you're looking for a tool that combines a reasonable feature set with a straightforward user interface.
